Fliss Watts
Fliss Watts studied sculpture and printmaking at the City and Guilds of London School of Art. Her work is largely figurative, including portraiture, in various mediums.
As a printmaker, she makes mostly lino prints, often starting from observational drawings. Her prints successfully translate the quick, exploratory marks of a pencil or charcoal sketch into stronger and more decisive carved lines, while retaining the liveliness of a spontaneous drawing.
Her subject matter includes studies of organic or anatomical forms, such as animal skulls and her own hands. Some of her work also incorporates textual elements, which play with ideas evoked by the image.
