Glenn Tomkinson
Born in 1944, Glenn has been making prints since his school-days. He now mainly work with aquatint sometimes combined with etching producing small editions of up to 20. He first encountered etching at Carlisle College of Art. Then for 25 years lived in Kent latterly exhibiting with the “Image” group of printmakers based in Whitstable.
Glenn returned to Cumbria in 2003 establishing his own studio. Having exhibited widely within the county and the surrounding areas including at Printfest, Glenn was recently commissioned by Faber and Faber to design the cover for their current edition of Wordsworth's poetry.
It is the limitations and difficulties of printmaking which allow Glenn to find the essential elements in the image. His work is mainly inspired by landscape and acknowledges the influence of the abstract in art while retaining a response to the visual stimulus of the world around us. Glenn has updated his website recently with a complete rebuild. Have a look using the link below.
