Now in it’s fifth year, this open studio tour is possibly the smallest and loveliest art trail in the country! A special opportunity to take a peek inside the studios of some of the finest artists in Cumbria. The coast area around Bowness-on-Solway which lies to the west of Carlisle on the Solway Firth is known locally as ‘the island’ and is home to a small group of professional artists. A great day out looking around a fascinating and diverse mix of studios whilst exploring this stunning Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Each artist will be on hand to discuss their creative methods and ideas as well as selling their work. Leaflets showing the route and places of interest will be available from each artist and from the Old Chapel in Port Carlisle as well as a waymarked trail to guide you around the 8 venues - look out for the ‘sunny flags’ beside the road.
Participating artists are Rowena Beaty (sculpture), Alison Critchlow (painting), Jonathan Leech (woodturning) and Hilary Rose Burt (sculpture and painting), John and Judith Rogers (painting and wildlife photography), Ray Pearson, Mark Gibbs ( sculpture and painting).
